When you are considering applying some tiles in your home or office, then it is normal that you go to showrooms. After all, these are great places to actually see a wide variety of tiles and to find the ones that you really like.

However, as soon as you place your order and the tiles are delivered to your home, you start opening the boxes and you realize these look completely different from the ones you saw at the showroom. But the reality is that they are the same. The difference? Shade variation of tiles.

What Is Shade Variation Of Tiles?

When you are looking for tiles for your home or commercial purposes, you should always check the shade variation rating for the tiles you like. This ensures that you will get what you are looking for.

Shade variation is basically how much  variation you can expect to see within the color or within the pattern.

In case you’re looking for a more uniform look, then you want to make sure that the tiles you pick are different than if you would prefer a busy look where you have a mixture of different colors or patterns.

Shade Variation Ratings

Simply put, the shade variation ratings go from V0 where most people can’t see any shade range up until V4 where you can clearly see the variety of colors or patterns. But let’s take a closer look at each one of these shade variation ratings.

V0: These are tiles that are considered uniform across. It doesn’t matter which tile you pick, it’s all going to look exactly the same. These are tiles where you don’t see any type of pattern or any kind of picture on it. It’s just very plain.

V1: There is a little more variation but it’s not very noticeable. It still has a little bit of pattern but you don’t notice too much variation between the pattern. That’s the most important thing. Even if it has a pattern, it’s all about the variation between the different tiles.

V2: Now you start to see more differences between the different types of patterns. It’s not significantly to a point where one tile looks completely different from another tile but within the batch of boxes you’re going to have, you’ll definitely going to notice some level of variation.

V3: In this category, you can already expect a lot of variation.

V4: In this category, the tile is actually meant to have some special differences in terms of variation because that might be the kind of look that someone is looking for.

Bottom Line

No matter if you’re looking for a more uniform look or for a busy look, paying attention to the shade variation rating is crucial. After all, this is what allows you to actually get the look you want and be happy with the final result.
